Board of Directors' Message

Dear Members,

Spring is here, and May will be filled with many celebrations - from Mother's Day to First Communions to Graduations. The Center is the place for all of your family celebrations.

The Center has a lot planned as well! We hope you will try your luck at the 32/50 Drawing Luncheon on May 4. Cheer on our lovely Irish young ladies as we crown the San Francisco Rose of Tralee at the Rose of Tralee Dinner on May 10. The Board would like to wish all mothers a happy Mother's Day, and we will honor all mothers at the Mother's Day Brunch and Dinner on May 11. Later in May, the ICCC Leo Walsh Scholarship Program will award 10 scholarships to young students in our community. The GAA games have begun! Call the UICC for weekly updates as to which teams are playing.

In April, we sent a notice to all members about our upcoming Annual General Membership Meeting on Thursday, May 22, 2008. At this meeting, we will elect four members to the Board, as President Karen Kinahan, Vice-President Bill Luque, and John Ring are terming out this Month.

At the May meeting, we will also vote on transferring the Patrick J. Dowling Library to the ICCC (Irish Cultural Centre of California) in order to receive the benefits of tax-exemption. You will have an opportunity to support the Library and other ICCC programs by purchasing an inscribed brick through the ICCC Brick Campaign. Look for an order form in the mail in May. The UICC membership will have first opportunity to be part of this campaign. The ICCC looks forward to working with Librarian Wendy King to implement a plan to preserve the treasure we have, while expanding on the services we offer. The Brick Committee and the ICCC Board will schedule information meetings in the months to come. If you have questions or suggestions about the campaign, please attend one of these meetings.

We are very excited by the opportunities we have upon us. And, we are enlivened by the energy of everyone who is working hard to make sure the Center is here for the generations ahead. We'll see you at the Center!

The UICC Board of Directors

Sincerely,
UICC Board
