It’s been a busy few days at the Center after a wonderful Samhain weekend. We had lots of music, dancing and some parties to enjoy. Among the highlights were Saturday’s concert by the Mayo born tenor Tommy Fleming. He enthralled a large audience in the St Patrick’s Room with a repertoire of Irish and contemporary songs to raise the spirit. Tommy promised he would return in 2017. We hope he keeps his promise

Saturday was certainly a busy night at the Center. As Tommy performed upstairs, Neil O’Neill was entertaining in our restaurant, fully bedecked in his Scottish/Irish kilt. Later we had a special Samhain costume party and disco that keep folks dancing into the wee small hours

This weekend we are looking forward to more great music in the bar with Tony McMahon and our regular First Saturday Irish Traditional Music Session with Cormac Gannon and friends. Hope to see you there!

On Saturday afternoon, we’ll be starting a once weekly Celtic Culture at the UICC event. It happens every Saturday at 2:30pm in our Boardroom where we have discussions and conversation on topics from Poetry to literature to myths and legends, all with an Irish/Celtic connection. On the third saturday we are having a special Children’s Storytelling event for our younger folk. This week we begin by having a Seamus Heaney Poetry Day, finding out about the life and works of this great poet. We shall be viewing a specially commissioned video on the new Seamus Heaney Homeplace Centre in Seamus’s hometown of Bellaghy, Co Derry.

There’s a nominal $5 coffee/tea donation. Come along and join the discussion
